  Match Recap

Father @ Mon Sep 20, 2004 5:11 pm
Alright hoes, here's the recap.

This was a very good match; both teams played very hard (and some bitched and moaned very hard too). The match started about 45 minutes late; first map was Citadel (SP’s pick).

Citadel!
Line ups!
Happy Birthday (HB):
Offense:Gaybush, Trav, EndOfTime
Defense:Damaged, Bretsky
Squarepants (SP):
Offense:RawMeat, Esco, Crazykid
Defense:ElCo, rok

Straight, unadulterated spanking handed out by SP. HB had absolutely no control of their base, allowing SP to walk in and out pretty much as they pleased – SP had superb offensive coordination, along with their D moving up at the right times, effectively having 4 people on their FC while entering the base. There isn’t that much else to say on this map, when the spread is this high it’s pretty impossible to pick out extraordinary flag runs or returns; this map was a walk in the part for SP and honestly a bore to watch. Final score, 9-2 SP

MVP: Crazykid – he demonstrated some stellar flag runs, effectively leaving HB’s defense holding their balls and ducking for cover.

Lavagiant!
Line ups!
Happy Birthday (HB): Blue Base
Defense: Trav, EndOfTime, Damaged
Offense: Gaybush, Bretsky
Squarepants (SP): Red Base
Offense: Paragon Esco, Crazykid
Defense: Tropic, rok

I have to say I was pretty skeptical about the playability of this map, but this match showed me that there’s still some sweet lovin’ left in this familiar map. Before I start, I have the give the le douche award to my fav bush, gaybush; after agreeing to not using the redeemer on the map during the match (server could not be reconfigured), 8 minutes in he sets one off in the deemer room. Hooray! \o/ <3

Back on track, both teams started off strong…the interesting setups here is that HB uses a 3 man D, 2 man O good ol’ UT1 style – leaving both teams with the same exact amount of work to do, no power in numbers in this match up (2 man O attacking a 2 man D, 3 man O attacking 3 man D). Both teams started well, both making coordinated runs but being shut out by the opposing D. A few minutes in, the SP Offense makes a superb run, running the flag down low as trav, eot and damaged scramble to get it back, SP’s Offense squeezes past the middle mark on the map, HB’s entire team scramble to get to them, doing a decent job but not good enough, SP was able to come up the left side of blue base as a 5 man entourage (after esco passes flag to rok), leading to rok capping, leaving the score 1-0 SP.

After this cap, HB’s tightened up, finally controlling some more power-ups and attacking together. A few minutes after the cap, SP once again gets the HB flag on their side of the base, in a panic Bretsky grabs the SP flag, and for some reason goes the EXACT ROUTE as SP flag carrier, walks BY the SP flag carrier and his backup unscathed. As he approached his base (by himself) the HB flag gets returned by Trav. Brestky caps the easiest, most trouble free cap OF HIS OFFENSIVE LIFE. 1-1.

After that fiasco both teams got their defense tight like a frogs ass, most runs by either offense didn’t make it across, this battle goes on until about the 5 minute mark, when Bretsky takes the SP flag – he does some fruity maneuvers, managing to get to the middle path towards the 100 shield, here Bretsky gets killed, but the flag is picked up by Gaybush! Oh nos! at this point HB’s D moves up to kill trailers, after doing so Gaybush safely hammers into his base and caps, leaving the score 2-1 HB, and about 3 minutes for SP to make a comeback.

With such little time on the clock, Gaybush sends Damaged on O while he stays to help D – the time runs down, SP unable to even leave the HB base for these remaining 3 minutes. Final score, 2-1 HB.

MVP: Trav – his D was essential to HB’s win on this map; smart player, with KEY flag returns. Trav gave SP a run for their money, and probably a little more they weren’t expecting.

Great games by both teams, these are two contenders right here and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them square off again at the finals!
