MLDM I
1. League Rules
These rules should now be considered official. Later changes are possible, but any major rule changes will be announced in the forums and on the main news page as well.
1.1 Leauge Format
The first edition of Major League Deathmatch 1v1, hereafter refered to as MLDM, will be in divisional format and feature a single-elimination playoff. There will be five (5) divisions containing eight (8) or nine (9) players, depending on your division. The divisional portion of MLDM will consist of a round-robin style format where every player plays every other player in their division in a total of seven (7) or eight (8) matches. Afterwards the top three (3) players with the most points from each division will advance to a sixteen (16) player single elimination tournament. The 16th player will be determined by taking the player who has the highest efficency throughout divisonal play that finished fourth.
1.2 League Point Format
Each match during divisional play consists of two maps and if need a tiebreaker. Teams will be awarded three (3) points for each map win, one (1) point for each map loss and zero (0) points for each map forfeit. The three (3) players with the most points at the end of the regular season in each division will advance to the playoffs. In the event of a tie, the team who has recorded the most game wins (not map wins) will advance. Should both teams have an equal number of game wins, the team that won the head-to-head matchup between both teams will advance. If the teams had split, the team with the better frag ratio in the head to head matchup will advance. If one of the teams had forfeited a map during the head to head, it will be considered an 10-0 loss for the purposes of calculating frag differential. If the teams are still tied in frag ratio in their head to head matchup, the team with the least number of forfeit losses will advance. If both teams have an equal number of forfeit losses, they will play a one map tiebreaker on a map determined by the admins.
1.3 Playoff Format
The playoffs will feature a single elimination bracket between the sixteen (16) top players. Each playoff round will feature a best-of-three format and the finals will feature a best-of-five format. The sixteen (16) teams are seeded as follows:

Division 1
(1) 1st Place
(10) 2nd Place
(11) 3rd Place

Division 2
(2) 1st Place
(9) 2nd Place
(12) 3rd Place

Division 3
(3) 1st Place
(8) 2nd Place
(13) 3rd Place

Division 4
(4) 1st Place
(7) 2nd Place
(14) 3rd Place

Division 5
(5) 1st Place
(6) 2nd Place
(15) 3rd Place

Seed (16) will be the player ranked fourth with the highest efficency from all divisions combined.

2. Match Rules

2.1 Map Selection
Each round of the regular season will consist of 2 maps, with the possibility of a 3rd, selected from a pre-determined map list. During each of the regular season matches, each team will pick one (1) map. Each team is allowed to choose a map from this list as many times as they please during divisional play. Each player must give thier server and map choice to the admin no more than (10) minutes after the scheduled match time. Once the match admin has announced each player's map selection, neither player may change their map choice. The one exception to this is if both players pick the same map. Should this happen, the admin will allow both players to resubmit their map selection. If both players decide not to change their map selection, that map will be played twice. However, if both players change their map pick but end up picking the same map, the map that was selected by both players initially will be the first map played and the map that was selected by both players the second time will be the second map played for the match. The player listed first one the site will have their map pick played first on the second player's server choice. If each player wins a map during the match then the match will go into a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker map will be determined by a process of elimination. The player with the higher frag spread from the two played maps combined will have first choice on which map they would like the eliminate. Each player will take turns eliminating maps from the map list until only one map is left, this map will be played as the tiebreaker. The map will be played on the player listed first's server choice.

The playoffs will be a best of three (3) maps with each player choosing one (1) map from the entire maplist. A player may not choose the same map more than twice throughout the course of the playoffs, excluding the finals. Should a tiebreaker be required, they will go through the process of elimination until only one map remains. The higher seeded player will play their map selection first. The tiebreaker will be played on the higher seeded player's server.

The final round of the playoffs will be a best of five (5) maps with each player choosing two (2) maps from the entire maplist. Should a tiebreaker be required, they will begin the process of elimination until only one map that hasn't been played is left. The players will play the higher seeded player's map selection first and then third. If the match travels to a tiebreaker server choice goes to the player seeded highest.
2.1a Map List
The current map list includes:

DM-Deck16][
DM-Liandri
DM-Malevolence
DM-Turbine
DM-Codex
DM-Terra
DM-Viridian
DM-Phobos
DM-Agony

However, admins reserve the right to add or remove any maps prior to the start of the season.
2.2 Color Choice
During all matches, the player that has not chosen the map to be played is allowed to choose color. During the playoffs, the choice of color for the tiebreaker maps is granted to the lower seeded player.
2.3a Forfeit Loss - Double Forfeit
If neither player shows within fifteen (15) minutes after the designated start match time or arrival of an admin, whichever is later, both players receive a forfeit loss for both maps, neither team receiving any points.
2.3b Forfeit Loss - 10 Minutes
If Player B does not show within ten (10) minutes after Player A has clicked in the correct server, provided that it is after the designated match start time or arrival of an admin, whichever is later, Player B forfeits their map pick and Player A receives points for the win. The timer will start the countdown and continue counting only when one player has clicked and if they happen to reconnect during that countdown, the timer is paused until that player clicks again.
2.3c Forfeit Loss - 20 Minutes
If Player B isn't in the server within twenty (20) minutes after Player A has clicked in the correct server, provided that it is after the designated match start time or arrival of an admin, whichever is later, Player B forfeits Player A's map pick and Player A receives points for the win. The timer will start the countdown and continue counting only when the player is in the server clicked. If one player happens to reconnect during that countdown, the timer is paused until that player clicks again.
2.3d Forfeit Loss - Between Maps
If neither player is within the server five (5) minutes of the completion of a map, provided an admin is present, both players receive a forfeit loss for the next map, neither team receiving any points.
2.3e Forfeit Loss - Between Maps
If, between maps, Player B is not within the server five (5) minutes after Player A has joined the server, provided an admin is present and Player A has clicked, Player B forfeits the map and Player A is awarded points for a map win.
2.4 Connections
MLDM I is an open ping event, and as such, nearly all connections are accepted and legal. However, a person cannot be on a LAN (local-area network) with the server. Any players found to be in violation of this rule will be suspended from league play until further notice.
2.5 Fair Ping
It is extremely difficult to find a level playing field in this age of the Internet.
MLDM has decided upon a simple guideline to use to determine if the server chosen for the match is considered "neutral", or fair.

North American Setups:
A fair Ping spread for a neutral server will be an average of 50 ms for both teams for the majority of players.

Player A pings 70-100, Player B pings 100-120 (50ms spread) This server is Neutral and should be used as the ONLY server for the match.

Player A pings 50-150, Player B pings 75-200 (150ms spread) This server is NOT Neutral, though if it is playable for both teams, COULD be used as part of a 2-server match.

Every effort should be made to find a NEUTRAL server for matches to minimize delays and confusion. An exception will be made, however, if one player is playing from a country outside of North America or on a 56k connection.
2.6 Server Selection
Each player's map selection shall be played on the other player's server selection. However, players are encouraged to play on the server that presents the best ping for both players. Players are not allowed to change their server choice once they have been told where to go by the admin for the start of the first map.

During playoff tiebreakers, the server choice is given to the higher-seeded player. However, players again are encouraged to play on the server that presents the best ping for both players.

Legal servers are described in rules 2.8.
2.7 Servers
2.7a Servers
The admins are responsible for having at least one MLDM-sanctioned server available for each match, that meets the Server Settings requirements (see next section). PM your match admin if you don't have a server preference (that you can set).

If you have a specific server preference (that's a common server, such as eK, LHTA, etc.), let the admin know and the admin will try to accomodate your request. However this server is not guaranteed - it must be setup correctly, possible to mapvote to the correct config, or the server admin must be around.

If you have a specific server preference AND you have admin to it, let the match admin know. As long as it meets the server requirements, and people have no trouble connecting to it, it should be allowed.
2.7b Server Settings
Required Mutators:
No Redeemer, CB12, AntiTweak v4.2, BDBMapVote3.04/MapvoteLA13, DeluxeChatV4, FastWeaponsSwitch, WhoPushedMe

Required Server Actors:
UTPureRC7E, NoTossWeaponSwitch, AnthChecker_v138 (Build 7), UTDCv18, AntiFA46, 2k4Combos

Server Settings:
Gametype: Team Deathmatch
Max Team Score: 0
Time Limit: 15 minutes
Weapons Stay: Off
Tournament: On
Force Respawn: On
Max Teams: 2
Friendly Fire: 0%
Game Style: Hardcore
Game Speed: 100%
Air Control: 35%
Translocator: Off
Bots: Off
Powerups: On (Shield only)

It is the responsibility of all participants, admins, and players to ensure that all the settings are correct prior to starting the match. Once both players have clicked in they have agreed to the current settings and no map can be replayed due to settings that are in conflict with those on the rules page.

The lack of HUD during a match does not merit a pause or a restart of the map as it can easily be fixed within seconds.
2.8 Server Crash
If a server crashes before 5 minutes have been completed, the server must be restarted, and the score should be considered 0-0. If the server crashes after the 5 minute mark or the round has been completed, the server is to be restarted, but the scores from the previous rounds will be retained. In the event of a second crash or continuing difficulties and an alternate server cannot be located, the players should report to IRC. At administrative discretion, league officials will decide on a suitable server or provide an extension on the match date. Players caught purposefully causing a server crash to reset a losing score or position will face a match overturn and possible further punitive action.
2.9 Scheduling
All match dates are prescheduled by the MLDM staff and times will be posted on the MLDM website. On these given dates players may show up and play as many divisional matches as they please as long as their opponent is willing to play. There will be four match days in order to complete seven matches. If teams wish to play outside of these dates they must let an admin know 24 hours ahead of the planned match date. If a player cannot show at match time, they will be subject to a forfeit loss. The specific rules for a forfeit loss due to a lack of players are enumerated under sections 2.3a through 2.3e.

Players are required to submit their server/map pick by ten (10) minutes after their schedule match time. Failure to submit information before this deadline will allow the other player to get into their server choice (even if it is not the server for the first map) and start their timer, assuming they have met this deadline. If neither team has their information at the deadline, rule 2.3a goes into effect.
3. Player Rules

3.1 Player Requirements
All players are required to:

a) Make decisions, such as lineup, map, color and server choices.
b) Take screenshot of their matches and provide them to the admins.
c) Collect evidence and provide it to the MLUT admins when accusing another team of breaking the rules.
d) Idle in #MLDM channel when on IRC in order to receive messages from admins.
3.2 Inactive Player
If a player misses three (3) consecutive matches, that player will forfeit the rest of his matches throughout the rest of divisional play, thus making them ineligable for the playoffs.
4. Game Rules

4.1 Cheats
All hacks, bots, radars, cheats and non-GUI (advanced preferences) controlled tweaks are illegal. This includes, but is not limited to, any kind of automated aiming bot, a trigger-bot, any form of radar, server-crashing bugs / tools, packet loss and latency inducing devices, external timers, HUD timers (besides the one PURE provides), and anything in that same vein or spirit, or any cheats/hacks/tweaks that causes a player to be kicked from the server (no ambient sounds/light boxes/no shadows/etc.). Please use your brain as this is a zero tolerance policy. Any violations will be reviewed and may result in a PERMANENT EXPULSION for the offending player from all MLUT related events and a forfeit loss of the match in question for the offending team. These rules are not finite and can be changed or modified at anytime to address any situation. Those caught by our cheat protection will be subject to punishment. The only allowable tweak is shortened death messages. Every other tweak is illegal for MLDM.

In addition, players can be convicted of the above without being caught by server cheat protection. Admins reserve the right to take into account all evidence regarding said player, including but not limited to: demos, screenshots and server logs.
4.1a Skins
Players may not use any skins other than those included in a default installation of Unreal Tournament, and may not alter the appearance of any of these skins by any means.

4.1b Spectators
Should any players be spectating a game without the consent of an administrator, they risk a possible suspension from league play. Should they be a member of a team playing in that match, the offending team will receive a forfeit loss for the map in question.
4.1c Demos
Every player must record a first-person demo of each map he plays and keep this demo for fourteen (14) days after the match. If a player joins the server after the start of a map, it is his responsibility to ensure that he starts recording a demo before commencing play.

If foul play is suspected in a match, a player must submit an inquiry directly to an admin. An accusation MUST be made before 11:59pm EST the day AFTER the match, or it will not be considered. The player making the accusation of foul-play, must submit his/her own demo to the admins, along with an explanation of the accusation, which player is in question, and the location in the demo of suspicious play. If the accusing player cannot supply their own demo, the inquiry will be dropped. If review of the accuser's demo reveals no suspicion of foul-play, the inquiry will be dropped. The admins will inspect the accuser's demo, and if there is the possibility of foul-play, the admins will request and then review the demo from the player in question.

Should the player or players in question be unable or unwilling to fulfill the admin staff's demo request promptly, the following punitive structure will be followed:

1st Offense: The map(s) in question will be forfeited to the opposing player and the player in question will be officially warned.

2nd Offense: The map(s) in question will be forfeited to the opposing player and the player in question will be suspended for one (1) official match, thus forfeiting their next match.

3rd Offense: The map(s) in question will be forfeited to the opposing team and the player in question will be removed from the season.
4.2 Server Admin
If a player logs into a server as administrator prior to a match, the player must logout when complete, and reconnect to the server. At no time may a player login as administrator during the match. Doing so will result in a forfeit loss for the map in question for the offending team, and a possible suspension for the offending player
4.3 Connection Fraud
All connection fraud is illegal, including but not limited to, faking your ping or disturbing another connection through any means. Any violations will result in a forfeit loss of the map in question for the offending team. The offending player will be suspended from play for the current season with the possibility of a longer ban.
4.4 Aliasing
A player may not use multiple identities over the course of the season. The name a player uses must be identical to that tracked by the admins and the alias they signed up as. If at any time a player refuses to use the name they signed up with when asked by an admin to change it during a match, they will be denied permission to play. Repeated offences will result in a player being suspended from play for the rest of the season.
4.5 Ringing
Using a ringer (a player not on your eligible roster, who is generally posing as an eligible player) is a serious offence. Using a ringer will result in removal from the season and a bye being given to all of your opponents, no matter if you beat them or not.
4.6 Piston Portal Camping
Piston portal camping is illegal. This includes sitting on either side of a portal with a charged piston and/or anything in the spirit of portal camping, such as but not limited to, repeatedly running through a portal with a charged piston. Any violations will result in a forfeit loss on the map in question for the offending team.
4.7 Game Bugs
Exploiting game bugs is illegal, such as, but not limited to, the armor bug. Any violations will result in a forfeit loss of the map in question for the offending team.
4.8 Map Bugs
Exploiting maps bugs is illegal, such as but not limited to pistoning above the level through the opening in the ceiling on Malevolence or pistoning to the top on DavidM2. Any violations will result in a forfeit loss of the map in question for the offending team.
4.9 Taunts
Excessive use of text taunts is illegal. Using taunts bound to movement keys, firing keys, weapon switch keys, or any other frequently used bind in the game, is illegal. Issues will be handled on a case by case basis. If a player continues to spam taunt binds after one warning his team will forfeit the map.
5. Administration

5.1 Administration Powers
All MLDM admins have the power to make any changes to information on the MLUT website. Should a captain or player notice any mistakes, he or she may contact an admin to make any changes. Should a captain, player or other admin feel that an admin is abusing their power, he or she may file a grievance with another MLDM admin and a vote will be conducted regarding the topic.
5.2 Conflict Resolution
Any and all problems (including those not governed in the rules) will be resolved by an admin vote. All admins have one (1) vote and can choose not to vote if they so please. In the hopes of keeping things moving, all open votes have a twenty-four (24) hour window in which admins can place their vote. There may, however, be exceptions to this twenty-four (24) hour window, should the vote be for something that does not require immediate resolution. In the event of a tie, the head admin will cast the deciding vote.
5.3 Sportsmanship
Any player using racial slurs or insulting remarks toward another team or player while in a official match will be removed from the match. ANY repeated offenses will result in the player being removed from the player list for the current season.
5.4 Asterisk
The MLDM admins reserve the right to alter any rule in any way at any time as they see fit if there is a passing majority admin vote. This is to protect the integrity of the tournament in case of a loophole or something being overlooked.
